Dry Ice Hash (a.k.a ‘Delta 9′)

Strain Review: California has now passed its new law that any Chemical extracted form of cannabis is ILLEGAL. Oils, Earwax, anything that was extracted using a chemical such as butane or alcohol is now ILLEGAL. Be advised patients!

Co-op’s such as ‘Green Angel of Malibu’ are selling this stuff called ‘Delta-9′ and I’ve asked them what it is and how it is made and the responses I’ve gotten are - “It’s crystallized kief.” & “It’s made with alcohol somehow.” - What? I didn’t understand these answers. So I did some research and found out how this ‘Delta-9′ concentrate is really made - because this is the best concentrate I have ever tried, it is very, very potent. The way it is made is with dry ice and screens, like when making kief. You use methods similar to sieving the kief and making bubble hash. Instead of ice, people use dry ice because the freezing strength is much strong then regular ice, and dry ice will not melt, it will just turn into a gas and evaporate. This type of concentrate is not made with butane or any solvents, although that doesn’t mean the person who made it didn’t use some solvent, but in general, this type of concentrate can be made without any solvents, just dry ice. It melts straight to a thick liquid once heated, like some oils do. So… with this being said, dry ice is a much better way to make a concentrated cannabis, it will freeze more trichs to be broken off, it will not turn into water and in my opinion - easier to work with in general. And the outcome between the two is an extreme difference - the dry ice will make a much more potent concentrate as more of the THC trichs will go be broken off and less contamination, I call the plant material ‘contamination’ because it serves no purpose besides to hold the THC, because less mixing will be involved. I have never actually made this style of concentrate - I have sieved kief and made bubble hash and other forms of ice water extraction but not dry ice. I honestly have had this idea long before I have ever heard of ‘Delta-9′ or dry ice hash, this idea came to me when I first made bubble hash with regular ice and thought that dry ice would be much more effecient in freezing the trichs. I don’t have much experience with concentrate making - so if there are any mistakes I have said or corrections that need to be made please let me know. Like I said I have never actually made dry ice hash just had the idea and then did some research only to find out people already do this and it works, supposedly works, very well.

[This was for information purposes only and all the information is just an opinion and I have not fully experimented with this to say it will be a 100% success, but in my opinion it is worth the try, and yes I will be trying this when I get sufficent trimmings and will be posting updates with the methods I have used and the outcome - but who knows when this will happen.]

    really? whoa!
do you have a link where this information was provided? or how is this information suppose to reach the public? i haven’t heard about it and I don’t want anyone else to get arrested.
would this make dry ice hash illegal also?

share the link or a scan of the article or something plz.

I think norml would be all over this and I haven’t seen anything. For a law like that to have gone through would be pretty devastating to the medical community and I call rumor. In terms of medicinal applications a concentrate is better for a patient. Stronger, less combustion material and whatever other reasons you can think of.

The reason for using a chemical is because there is no more efficient way of isolating the ‘THC’ from the plant matter. This is because alcohols and most other fuels are fairly large molecules just like the trich resin. Like dissolves like so nothing but the psychoactive resin is removed from the plant. Shit, you could make hash with diesel fuel if you want and it would work. Like dissolves like so the large trich resin molecules. dissolves easily in the like solvent. As for removing the solvent from the THC…therein lies the issue.

Because you can never totally remove your solvent from your THC, flavor is compromised. I have had some butane extract that was pretty good but nothing like real bubble hash.

As far as water extract your article is very interesting. When extracting using water one of the most important factors is getting your trichs as cold as possible so this is quite interesting. I just don’t understand how the resin is removed in conjunction with the dry ice. You put a bunch of dry ice in bubble bag of water? It can’t achieve any temperatures below freezing (if in water) and when using regular ice you can bring it down to like 33-32 F. I would like to see some temp testing to see if it makes a difference.

I know a lot of people that are very picky about screen mesh and extracting ‘only the best’. I personally use a tight mesh cooking screen. I can say I don’t have the 175 micron flavor, but quality of high is still retained.

Yeah i wasnt to sure about this being illegal, I still can’t google it or anything. Only info I can find on it is on this website. This is a horrible rumor to spread T_T
yes i agree, any solvent can be used to isolate certain parts of plants but it isnt about how many chemicals can be used, its about finding the one that works best and is the safest. we all know butane and other chemical extractions are more efficient in removing the trichs, but the opposing side of this is that butane could be a toxic chemical.
now as far as the dry ice works, yes you make your dry ice hash with the bubble bags but this is not neccisary to have the bags, as you already know the whole purpose of the bubble bags isnt like magic or anything, its a simple process of eliminating the biggest to the smallest material found on the plant itself. your bound to loose trichs making bubble hash also as not every trich is the same size, so some trichs might fall into the contamination screen. Now, dry ice is much colder than ice so freezing the plant and trichs will work more efficietly, regular ice can melt in the buckets with the bags and cause an overflow, only if the temperature is extreme. Dry ice evaporates, so the dry ice will be added to the water and trim/nugs inside your bags. Dry ice reacts to water violently and will already be mixing your plant material, the water may start bubbling or something of this nature. So now even less mixing is involved, but I would mix it the same amount. The dry ice will get so cold, it will create a layer of ice on top, a thin one but it will be there (this layer should only appear on top) this will act as the regular ice and keep it at freezing temperature at all times.
I don’t understand your question about how to remove the dry ice from the resin as the dry ice leaves no residue behind whatsoever like butane or alcohol, you would just have to wait for it to dry or press it out yourself. I have not actually made this type of concentrate but I recently talked to two seperate individuals who explained to me more in-detail about how this actually works. I was getting around to updating my last post, thanks for leaving a comment, it was a great reminder.
It just all depends on how you want to extract it and what your looking for. Personally, I prefer dry ice method over them all, because the quality and the taste are so pure. Then would have to be butane method, the bubble bag method is very good and I have had alot of experience making this style of hash but just isn’t my favorite.
Please, anyone, keep this conversation going. Questions or corrects are encouraged as I would like more people to know about this method and I would like to learn more about it.

I get it, no water added to the bag. Essentially just keifing with dry ice included. Very intresting…

here ya go, I actually found a link from another forum from someone who has tried this. they were a new member when they posted this and haven’t posted anything since (could be a lie) but the description is nearly the same from what i heard from other people.

From what I have heard the concentrate ban is true. Thank you for the more detailed instructions on how the dry ice method is carried out tucansam420. You can bet I’ll be using dry ice next time I make hash, loving your posts sweetsmoke420
